Archeological finds in all of the Caraga, specially in Butuan, are considered gems of great significance in South-east Asia. Fleet of ancient boats  “Balanghai” dating back to 320 AD, were among the archeological findings. Unspoiled beaches, caves, springs, forest are beacon to tourists worldwide. The BUTUAN REGIONAL MUSEUM repository of pre-historic archeological diggings, stone age artifacts, burial coffins, Chinese ceramics and religious and liturgical arts and material and other collection in the Diocesian Ecclesiastical Museum.

 

According to the Chinese Song She (history) people from the region has already established trading relations with the kingdom of Champa ( present day South Vietnam) as early as the 10th century. And it is believed that the people in the region, as well as its history, culture and arts began as early as the 4th century.

 

In the 11th century BUTUAN was the center of trade and commerce, long before the Philippines pictured in the world map.

 

 

Antonio Pigafetta, chronicle of world Ferdinand Magellan described in his records the presence of RAJAS SIAIU of Mazaua and his brother RAJA CULAMBU of Butuan during “THE First MASS” and his words of CALAGAN and Balanghai, never did the expect that is narration of those event in the 14century would create a controversy, interest and challenge to out local historians.
